Capella Regalis Spring Open House

May 10, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

What is it like to be part of Capella Regalis? Come and find out!

Do you know a boy age 6 – 12 who may be interested in singing? This is the perfect opportunity to come find out more about our programme. Boys, parents, educators, all welcome. The Open House will start with a 15-minute performance by the choir, followed by a brief talk by director Nick Halley, followed by refreshments and a chance to meet current choristers and parents.

Capella Regalis is a free programme open to any boy who passes an audition. There is a once-weekly junior choir programme that allows new choristers to learn the basics in a low-pressure environment and transition to the senior choir only when ready. In addition, the choir offers transportation to regular rehearsals for any boy who otherwise would not be able to participate.

The choir was founded in Halifax by director Nick Halley in 2010 and is modeled on the great Anglican tradition of men and boys church choirs. While Canada was once rich with such choirs, Capella Regalis is one of only a handful of liturgical men and boys choirs in Canada today. The choir sings Choral Evensong every week of the academic term in the University of King’s College Chapel. The choir also performs concerts throughout Nova Scotia and beyond in a busy September – June season. Past concerts include Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the University of King’s Chapel Choir, Carmina Burana with the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra and the King’s Chorus, the Paul Winter Consort’s Missa Gaia/Earth Mass with the King’s Chorus, the recent production of Benjamin Britten’s Saint Nicolas with the King’s Chorus, and the popular annual Christmas concert, To Bethlehem with Kings. In addition to services and concerts, the boys of Capella Regalis go on tours, enjoy a summer choir camp in the last week of August, and participate in various musically- and socially-enriching outings and experiences.
